Hi, I’m Gareth!
I completed my Bachelor of Science degree at Stellenbosch University’s Health Sciences campus at Tygerberg in 2018, where we completed our internship at the renowned Tygerberg Academic Hospital. After this I made the big call to pursue my passion in clinical and tertiary nutrition and was fortunate enough to be placed at Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Acedmic Hospital for my community service experience and moved to Johannesburg to complete this year over 2019.
My passion for dietetics was cemented through my own struggles with weight and health during my younger years, which I overcame through understanding and educating myself as well as becoming avidly involved in sport and physical activity such as running, swimming, biking, combat sports, lifting etc. which eventually lead to my pursuit of health sciences, specifically my Dietetics BSc. Subsequently, combining this personal experience with my tertiary education to help others has become the overarching passion behind my practice. I am keenly interested in general weight loss or pre-operative weight loss (i.e for orthopaedic conditions such as hip and knee replacements) and health improvement as well as being more than capable of aiding with the handling of chronic diseases of lifestyle e.g diabetes, hypertension, heart disease and high cholesterol etc.
I try to consult all of my patients through the lens of both a professional, as well as someone who has personally dealt with nutrition related issues and as such all patients regardless of background are seen with the utmost respect for their individual situation, without judgement and in a safe environment. I aim to provide a personalized experience for every patient by fostering good relationships in order to achieve an overall lifestyle balance that improves their health over the long term, while also improving their vitality and investing in an overall improvement in quality of life.
